This 1/2 day summer camp is an excellent adventure for your kiddo that still gets them home in time for lunch. It is our hope that after running their own expedition on MJ students will be bursting with the spirit of curiosity and exploration!
During the program we will run science experiments, collect water samples, and use a microscope to peek inside the ecology of Lake Michigan and the St Joseph River. When onboard the ship, students become the crew and learn about famous science expeditions on ship's like the Beagle, and Endurance. The small group number of 6 ensures that everyone can handle the old technology used for navigation, depth sounding and bottom sampling, as well as participate in the many awesome science experiments.
"There is so much left to explore!" says Dr. Alison Bray, a professor in Chemistry and Marine Science. She will be leading us in this great summer camp style adventure!
Captain Megan has been sailing these old ships for over 20 years, and wants to assure parents and group leaders that everyone on board will be well looked after, and have access to an authentic ship experience.
The Expedition Sail is for kids age 11 -14 (6th - 8th grade). It's great for scout groups, cousin get togethers, or as a reward for outstanding performance in your club or classroom. Buy it as a gift for the spring birthdays in your house.
Dr. Ali believes that the days of exploration are not over yet! A deep lover of science and the sea she offers her expertise in developing and running the Expedition Sail. She has been exploring Lake Michigan since she was child while visiting her grandmothers home in the area. We are thrilled to have her onboard to help us look inside the waters of Lake Michigan and the St Joseph River.
