After a long day of working aloft in Friends Good Will's rig, Sam climbed down to deck only to discover that he was now onboard Tallbship MJ. Recognizing Captain Megan - who was both surprised and relieved to see him - Sam decided to join the crew. With great attention to detail and a calm persistence, Sam is like the ship's keel, keeping the team solid and grounded throughout the wild summer. He loves plants, nature, and spending time with those that are close to him. Your most likely to find him furling sails just beyond the lighthouse.

He is also eagerly pursing a maritime career. He enjoys the mechanics of sailing, the many different skills it takes, and the adventure of the seas. At dusk he has been heard singing a few noble shanties to strengthen the crew as they put the ship to bed.

Shanghaied off the banks of the St Joseph River, Eddie is now a staple sight on MJ's deck. A knife connoisseur, Eddie's blades are always ready to lend a hand and his general watchful eye for his crew mates has won him the title of the 'Boat Dad.' A knife connoisseur, Eddie's blades are always ready to lend a hand and his general watchful eye for his crew mates has won him the title of the 'Boat Dad.' He too has been bitten by the tallship bug, and is entering a maritime career focusing on mechanics and ship systems. You'll often find him as the last one to "turn off the lights" down on the docks.

Plucked from an acting troupe in Ohio, Sam is new to sailing, but not the ways of the sea. Shanties and hard work are already his bread and butter, so he fits right in to schooner life on Tallship MJ. Sam enjoys the adventure, fun and carrying on the tradition of ships and the seas. One day Marissa popped down the Galley hatch on the Friends Good Will, just to pop up the main hatch on Schooner Serenity. She then made her way via a third hatch here to tallship MJ, where she is our Mate and Guest Experience Coordinator. She loves thinking of new ways to brighten the day of our visitors and staff. In her spare time, she serves coffee in her home town of South Haven, sails on any boat she can find, and enjoys her nieces and nephews.

Amanda fell asleep one night in the Friends Good Will's topsail and woke up in a world of schooners. While she prefers boats with square sails, she joins us on MJ after over a decade of ship-life experience. Her passion for ships and their tradition started when she was still a young girl (about 12). It was then that she decided that she wouldn't just work on boats, she'd learn to lead, and become a captain. She spends her winters teaching science to high-schoolers, and is a great source of fun facts and sciencey trivia!

Chloe paddle boarded her way up to Schooner Serenity one day and used her customer service charm to score the best gig of her life - full time sailing! Eager to continue her deckhand career, she tied alongside tall ship MJ and is a sparkling addition to the team. In her spare time, she sails, hikes, climbs, and oh, yeah - studies nursing!

One day Joelle sang her way upon a tall ship and has been enchanting sailors and guest ever since with her voice, smile and hauling strength. We are thrilled to have her on MJ, as our Shantywoman. She keeps us laughing and enjoying the simple things in life. Her love for music is no surprise as she spends the off season teaching music to elementary/middle school kids. In her off time, she reads, enjoys history and, well, sings…imagine that.

After life in Chicago's hustle and bustle, Roe found her passion through sailing ships. MJ is her fourth tall ship, and she is so thrilled to be out on beautiful Lake Michigan on a wooden boat. Roe likes soaking in the people, scenes and moments that make life unique and special. Her favorite place on board a boat, is feeling a gentle breeze aloft (up in the rigging).

Jamie hails from Buffalo to help lend a hand on MJ's deck. She has done her "year (try several) before the mast" and loves catching some summer sailing on Lake Michigan. The way the ship brings history, nature, theater and people all together is one thing Jamie loves about sailing.
